Former Colchester United player Nicky Smith has passed away at the age of 57. Smith began his career at Southend United before joining Colchester in 1990 and helped them complete a Conference title-FA Trophy double. He also played for the national police team and had spells in management with AFC Sudbury and Saffron Walden. Smith scored 12 goals in 157 appearances for the club.
