Miller hospital celebrates Autism Acceptance Day with help from mini therapy horses, firefighters

Miller Children’s & Women's Hospital in California hosted its annual Autism Acceptance Day event on April 2, bringing awareness to the neurodivergent community and celebrating the acceptance of neurodiverse people. The event included a visit from mini therapy horses and local firefighters. Autism is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects communication, social interaction, and behavior. Each year, one in 31 children is identified on the autism spectrum in the United States, each year, this event is part of the global effort to raise awareness and encourage parents to get their children evaluated. Dr. Ioana Pal, licensed clinical psychologist at the Stramski Children's Developmental Center at Miller Children's & Women’�s Hospital, emphasized the importance of inclusion in the celebration. The hospital also encouraged patients and families to participate in fun and interactive sensory activities.
