Major League Baseball (MLP) has announced plans to expand Spring Breakout from standalone games to a single-elimination tournament in 2027. This year, 16 games will take place around the Grapefruit and Cactus Leagues, including those from the Red Sox and the Yankees. The change comes as the impending expiration of the current collective bargaining agreement on Dec. 1 could lead to another lockout, which could prevent any players from reporting to spring training or participating in any club or league activities.
