Google parent Alphabet has announced plans to invest $40 billion in AI company Anthropic, a significant investment in the AI industry. The investment will be made at a $350 billion valuation, with another $30 billion to follow if Anthropic hits specific performance milestones. This is not the first time Google has invested in Anthropic; it has also invested in the company since 2023. The deal also includes plans to support an expansion of Anthropic's computing capacity, with a new agreement signed with Google and Broadcom for multiple gigawatts of TPU chip capacity. The company is also considering an IPO as soon as October.
