Iowa House Republicans are pushing for a bill to ban a warrant resolution clinic in Polk County, which they allege played a role in the murder of a woman. The program allowed Polk County residents with minor warrants to have them cleared in exchange for meeting the terms of punishment, like paying a fine. Sharneeka Evans was charged with first-degree murder for the death of Ashley Marie Hall after attending the clinic days before. Republican Rep. Steve Holt of Dennison argued that the clinic should have allowed Evans to leave after dealing with the previous charge. The bill would ban the program and charge organizers with a simple misdemeanor and up to $10,000 fine for operating a clinic that removes someone's outstanding warrant.
