TSA officials have warned that airport wait times are at record highs and may temporarily close some airports due to the partial government shutdown. The agency's acting administrator, Ha Nguyen McNeill, stated that multiple airports are facing high agent callout rates of over 40%. As of Wednesday, nearly 37% of TSA workers called out at several major airports, including Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson and New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport, nearly 36% at Louis Armstrong International Airport in New Orleans. Some airlines are offering discounts for passengers affected by long TSA lines.
