Stuart Cinema and Café, the first Black Latina-owned movie theater in New York, has been relocated to Long Island City, set to open its doors and reopens on April 3. The venue was founded by producer and entrepreneur Emelyn Stuart out of her frustration with the barriers facing independent filmmakers, including distributor gatekeeping, outdated screening facilities, and lack of attention to the needs of staff. The new location will feature two auditoriums, luxury recliner seating, larger screens, and a full-service restaurant.
