The author, former Google leader on AI-driven future of work and Democratic U.S. Senate candidate, argues that Artificial Intelligence (AI) is advancing faster than our institutions are prepared to handle. The author suggests that by 2025, about one in five American workers reported using AI tools on their job and over a quarter of U.K. job postings are already in roles that are expected to significantly reshaped by AI. This raises questions about economic fairness, as many industries are dominated by one company or two that capture most of their profits without competition, this could exacerbate this issue. The article suggests that America should build a national economic resilience system, a system that allows for job transitions and provides advance notice, support, and clear path to the next opportunity. It also suggests strengthening unemployment insurance for the 21st century, prioritizing prevention over cleanup, and reinvesting in the workers who make this growth possible.
