The 2026 road construction season in Indianapolis is rapidly increasing, with multiple projects across the metro. The 16th Street Bridge over the White River will close for up to two years due to a $15 million project, despite over 1,300 residents' pleas for one travel lane to remain open due to concerns about safety, emergency response, and businesses in the area. The city's largest construction project, the I-65 Safety and Efficiency project, will bring ramp and lane restrictions throughout the spring and summer. The Clear Path 465 project on the northeast side is nearing its 80% completion milestone and is expected to finish later this year. Meanwhile, Georgia Street's $9.1 million redevelopment into a park-like plaza is returning after being postponed for the 2026 Final Four, which was supposed to be completed in time to host the event's Tip-Off Tailgate but missed deadlines meant it had to be completely paved over so the city could honor its commitment with the NCAA to an outdoor fan fest. Additionally, residents are concerned about the impact of ongoing Washington Street closures tied to IndyGo's Blue Line construction and major infrastructure upgrades on Shelby and Prospect streets.
