Popular Democratic Party Rep. José "Conny" Varela Fernández has criticised House Speaker Carlos "Johnny" Méndez Nuñez for suspending a legislative investigation into alleged irregularities at island vehicle inspection centers. The lawmaker accused the speaker of interference with the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, chaired by Rep. Jose "Cheito" Hernándz Concepción, of the governing New Progressive Party, of interfering with the committee's work. The suspension of the House probe could undermine legislative oversight and the separation of powers, although the House debated testimony from Arturo Deliz Vélez.
