The NFL draft began with a surprise selection in the first round, with the Las Vegas Raiders selecting Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza. The Rams made a significant reach by selecting Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson with the 13th pick. This move was seen as a project for Simpson, who was ranked 42nd-best prospect in the draft on his big board by NBC Sports' Connor Rogers. Despite being a one-season starter for Alabama, Simpson struggled down the stretch of his final collegiate season and threw only six touchdowns in five games. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers selected Miami edge rusher Rueben Bain Jr. at No. 15 due to Bain Jr.'s arm length of 30 ⅞ inches, which may explain his slide. The biggest sign of what's coming for Philadelphia is the potential trade with USC receiver Makai Brown. The Eagles are reportedly in talks to trade him up to 20th pick in the NFL.
