Oil prices surge as Trump team readies to "mitigate" costs

Crude oil prices have reached their highest levels since the military campaign against Iran, raising the prospect of further increases in the coming days. The Energy and Treasury Departments are set to begin efforts to address energy price increases from the Iran conflict, according to Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The U.S. does not currently have immediate plans to release oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, but ING analysts suggest coordinated emergency releases from several countries. The global benchmark Brent crude is trading at roughly $83 per barrel, up over $10 per barrel since last week.
