A Chinatown-based sneaker shop, 1587 Sneakers, is suing Kansas City Chiefs stars Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes over trademark infringement claims. The company, which opened in 2023, claims that their jointly-owned restaurant and apparel brand,1587 Prime, encroaches on their business’s name in a way that it negatively impacts their sales and reputation. The lawsuit is seeking monetary damages for lost sales and confusion caused by the athletes' use of the number 15. The football players' lawyers have argued that the suit should be dismissed in court as their businesses are based in the Southern District of New York and they have shipped products to New York through their online store.
