The IDF has detained a CNN crew covering settler violence in the West Bank, causing one crew member to be injured and damaged their cameras. The team was interviewing Palestinian residents in the town of Tayasir after settlers established an outpost and violently attacked residents. IDF soldiers reportedly ordered the team and Palestinians to stop speaking and aimed their weapons at them. One soldier reportedly put CNN photojournalist Cyril Theophilos in a chokehold and damaged his camera. The crew's detention lasted two hours and the IDF soldiers shared their personal perspectives on Israeli sovereignty in West Bank with CNN's Jerusalem Correspondent Jeremy Diamond. The soldiers claimed they had known personally and suggested that the settler outpost he was protecting in Tayasiri was illegal under Israeli law. The IDF stated that the actions and behavior of the soldiers in the incident were incompatible with what is expected of IDF soldiers operating in the Judea and Samaria area.
