Boston Mayor Michelle Wu has publicly supported Foxboro's refusal to waive its security funding demands for the World Cup soccer tournament at Gillette Stadium. The dispute stems from a decision by the Foxboro Select Board to withhold an entertainment license for the soccer tournament unless the Kraft Group and other event organizers cover the $7.8 million cost the town is burdened with for security personnel and equipment costs. The Boston 2026 host committee had received a financial commitment from Kraft Sports and Entertainment, but the financial commitment was not included.
