New Mexico and Albuquerque officials have come out against allegations that Cesar Chavez sexually abused women, teens, and girls as young as 12. The New York Times published a story alleging that Chavez pressured her into sex and raped her. This led to fellow activist Dolores Huerta also coming forward with allegations of her own. State and city leaders are demanding that signs on Avenida Chavez in Albuquerque, a well-known street, come down swiftly. Huertta had kept her allegations hidden for decades, but kept them private.
