A policy group led by CrowdStrike co-founder and cybersecurity expert Dmitri Alperovitch has warned that tariffs on digital displays used in TVs and smartphones could prevent the US military from becoming dependent on China for critical parts. The group's report also highlighted concerns about China's increasing market share in displays, a critical part of both consumer and defense electronics, which was previously dominated by U.S. allies such as Japan and Korea. The majority of high-end smartphones sold in the US still use Korean-made cells, which could account for up to 75% global market share by 2028. While many of President Donald Trump's broad tariffs have been struck down by the Supreme Court, the Trump administration is working on more targeted tariffs under specific statutes.
