It gained global recognition after being used in the fourth-generation Supra in 1993, becoming a global icon due to its vast power potential when modified. Despite the demise of the 2Z in the early 2000s, many automakers have developed inline-six engines with factory horsepower figures that surpass the 2JJZ. The Mercedes-Benz M256, which uses both turbocharging and hybrid assistance, is considered one of the most powerful inline-Six engines ever put in a production vehicle.
