Democrats have largely stopped talk of impeaching President Trump this year, stating that there is little chance of it happening unless they regain control of at least one chamber of Congress. However, they face a two-thirds majority from the Senate to convict a president impeached by the House, which is required for this. This has led lawmakers to focus on less flashy tactics like impeachment and the 25th Amendment. Rep. Madeleine Dean (D-Pa.) said that while she has called for impeachment and removal, she believes it is not the best use of our time. She also suggested that Democrats should focus on addressing issues like Iran and affordable issues such as war in the DHS funding fight. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries has shown no indication he will support a proactive Trump impeachment effort this year.
