ZDNET has found that car charging can lead to overheating, particularly in cars, where the heat of the phone can cause it to become too hot. The author, who has been tracking the battery health of his daily driver iPhones for two years, found that while he followed Apple's recommended methods, his phone's battery quickly deteriorated. He stopped using these methods and instead used any charger or power bank close to hand. The only time he has ever seen his iPhone enter "Charging on Hold" mode when it overheates is when it's charging in the car. Apple warns that high temperatures can permanently reduce battery capacity and that it is especially important to avoid exposing your device to ambient temperatures higher than 95° F (35° C), which can permanently damage battery capacity. The article also notes that there are several ways to improve the battery life in 12+ iPhone and older versions of iOS 26 and older, but laws of physics can't change.
