The article discusses the love of artificial intelligence (AI) by scammers, who use it every minute of every day. Over half of spam emails are AI-generated, and over 80% of phishing emails are phishing products. The use of AI in scams is most likely in imposter scams where someone assumes the role of law enforcement, a government agency, a business, or a romantic interest. The article also highlights the use of deepfakes in online advertising or marketing, which are often depicted in images or videos of celebrities promoting or advertising medications, cosmetics, or cryptocurrency. The author suggests that the same tools used for conventional scams can be used to thwart AI, such as updating your passwords and deleting apps that hold passwords vulnerable to hacking.
