Rec Room, a Seattle-based social gaming company, is shutting down its platform on June 1, leaving the future of the company and its employees uncertain. The company announced the closure in a blog post, stating it could not find a path to profitability despite reaching over 150 million players over the past decade. Starting immediately, Rec Room will block new account creation, new friend requests, and new subscriptions to its Rec Room Plus membership. Token purchases and creator earnings will end on May 1, and a final creator payout will be processed on June 2. The decision was made to wind down while the company still has the ability to do so. The future of Rec Room Inc. is uncertain.
