Japanese town of Fujiyoshida has been hit by "tourism pollution" as tourists flock to see cherry blossoms and Mount Fuji, causing traffic congestion, litter, and unruly foreigners. This has led to the cancellation of this year's annual cherry blossom festival, which was started to promote tourism a decade ago. Local communities are struggling to manage the impact of foreign visitors on their communities. The issue has led officials to cancel this year’s festival, a promotion idea that promotes tourism. The problem has also been seen in popular destinations in Japan, like Kyoto and Kamakura, where foreign tourists have exceeded 10,000 per day in recent years. The government plans to increase the current level of 40 million inbound tourists to 60 million visitors by 2030.
