The 1st Cavalry Division is set to receive the XM30 combat vehicle and the M1E3 Abrams tank in the fall. The announcement comes amid concerns about the future of the tank in modern warfare, following the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Maj. Gen. Thomas Feltey, the 1th Cavalry commander, stated that the need for a "new battlefield framework" is to restore mobility to the armored brigade combat team. The Trump administration's fiscal 2027 budget request includes $547 million to buy more than a dozen Xm30s.
