Some Ukrainians who fled the country after Russia's invasion of Ukraine fear they may never return to their homeland. Many fled with their children and moved abroad, including Taria Blazhevych, who lives in Washington, D.C. and is among the nearly 6 million people who have left the country during the war. While many have found work, education, and stability in their host countries, others fear their children may forget their homeland or struggle to adapt if they return. As Russian forces continue to control eastern Ukraine, those who remain in Ukraine face daily drone and missile strikes, rolling blackouts, sleepless nights, waves of mobilization and uncertainty about their future. Dmytro Zviahintsev, a senior electrical engineer and small-business owner in Ukraine, said he found it difficult to adapt to life in a new country due to the language barrier.
