President Trump has chosen Erica Schwartz, a longtime civil servant and public health veteran, to head the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), in a signal of a shift away from vaccine skepticism ahead of the midterm elections. Schwartz, who served as the deputy surgeon general during his first term, would be the fourth person to lead CDC in less than a year and its second full-time director. This move comes as Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. seeks to downplay his vaccine skepticism stance ahead of November's midterm elections, as polls show public is supportive of vaccines. The White House also named three other top officials to help lead the agency, including Sean Slovenski, former Walmart Health CEO, Jennifer Shuford, and Sara Brenner, FDA Principal Deputy Commissioner.
