Olivia Morgan's daughter, Aubrie, 18, died in a car accident on Jan. 14, while her mother, who had raised her since kindergarten, was not answering her messages. Morgan reached the manager of Aubrie's restaurant where she worked and asked if someone could check the nearby parking area where her daughter’s phone location was showing. Moments later, the manager found Aubrie sleeping in her car, cold and not breathing. By the time they reached the hospital, she had been pronounced dead. Carbon monoxide had been introduced to the car by a small crack in the engine manifold, allowing exhaust gases containing carbon monoxide to leak into the vehicle. The gas deprives the body of oxygen and can cause symptoms such as headache, dizziness, nausea and confusion. Morgan hopes to encourage people to check on others, even if it feels awkward or means waking someone who is just napping.
