Gary Jenkins, CEO of Urban Pathways, has taken a new role as CEO of the nonprofit organization dedicated to serving and supporting unhoused and at-risk adults. He credits his success to being laser-focused on serving the most needy with the freedom to make decisions that have the greatest impact. Jenkins was introduced to public service by his older sister, who encouraged him to apply for college and provided him with supporting documentation for financial aid. He began his career in public service as an eligibility specialist at a center in Queens and later became commissioner of the New York City Department of Social Services. He was appointed to the top leadership spot of the organization in March after serving as its inaugural chief administrative officer.
