Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway's health has deteriorated, according to the Royal House of Norway. She will not participate in a state visit from Belgium next week and has been non-public appearances since January. The Royal Palace confirmed that her condition had worsened in a December 2025 statement. This follows her diagnosis of chronic pulmonary fibrosis in 2018, a lung disease that causes scar tissue to the lungs and can worsen over time. Her son, Marius Borg Høiby, is currently on trial on 38 charges, including four counts of rape. Additionally, the Crown Princess was named in files released by the U.S. Department of Justice relating to the investigation of Jeffrey Epstein, a convicted sex offender.
