Stephen McCorkle, a former gas station clerk, has been convicted of first-degree murder for killing 36-year-old James Rendon following a burglary at the store in 2024. The theft was caused by McCorksle leaving the store unlocked and unattended, leading to a free-for-all of theft. Prosecutors allege that McCorkled became enraged by the thefts and tracked down Rendon by car. The verdict was returned after a five-day trial and requires McCorkles to serve at least 30 years in prison before he is eligible for parole. His sentencing hearing has not been scheduled.
