City Council Member Lincoln Restler announced that work is underway to remove the scaffolding from the facade and roof of the Brooklyn Courthouse, which has been covered in by scaffolding for over a decade. This comes as part of a larger effort to address the problem of sidewalk sheds across the city, which are often used as platforms for construction workers. The Department of Buildings has proposed updates to the city's façade safety regulations, extending the inspection cycle from five years to six and limiting the size of the sidewalk sheds installed on buildings with unsafe facades. The project will be completed by fall 2027.
