Colorado Springs restaurants are officially on Michelin's radar for the first time, with anonymous inspectors already in the field to scout new gems across the state. The recognition of a Michelin Guide can boost a restaurant's profile, draw foodie tourism and elevate the city's culinary reputation. Colorado is paying $100,000 this year for Michelin to review restaurants statewide, expanding beyond its previous focus on mountain and Front Range communities. Since 1997, Michelin has also awarded "Bib Gourmand" honors for exceptional food at affordable prices. However, the traditional three-star scale remains the gold standard. Local restaurateurs say the Michelin effect is already changing behavior in the Springs.
