Lonnie Lee Higgins, a 71-year-old man, was found 110 feet deep on the ocean floor while participating in a dive to see the shipwreck Eagle off the coast of Islamorada in the Florida Keys. Commercial dive employees located him at a depth of about 110 feet and began CPR. He was transported to a hospital less than 10 miles away in Tavernier, where he was pronounced dead. The sheriff's office stated that foul play is not likely to be a factor in the incident. The shipwreck was intentionally sunk more than 40 years ago to create an artificial reef.
