Satellite builder K2, founded by brothers and former SpaceX engineers Karan and Neel Kunjur, is set to launch its first high-powered satellite, Gravitas, to demonstrate technology required to build data centers in orbit. The launch will take place on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket by the end of this month. Gravitas is expected to produce 20 kW of electricity for payloads such as sensors, transceivers and computers. K2 CEO Karan Kojur believes that the future of space power lies in the power of satellites with more power on orbit, with the first impact expected to be on communications networks. The company plans to launch eleven satellites in the next two years and expects to be producing satellites for customers to build commercial networks of high-power space vehicles by 2028.
