Mark Zuckerberg's company, Meta, is reportedly delaying the release of its next artificial intelligence model, "Avocado," due to internal tests showing it falling short of rival models from Google, OpenAI and Anthropic. The company is considering temporarily licensing Google’s Gemini to power its products following the disappointing results. This comes as Meta, the owner of Facebook, Instagram, and Threads, has spent billions on top AI talent and committed $600 billion on building data centers to power the tech. The new Avocado model is expected to launch around May after it failed to measure up in terms of reasoning, coding, and writing. Meta's AI efforts are being closely watched in the artificial intelligence arms race.
