EU to lay out local content rules to strengthen manufacturing, cut China reliance

The European Commission is set to unveil plans to set local content requirements to strengthen the EU's manufacturing sector and reduce reliance on cheap Chinese goods. The Industrial Accelerator Act (IAA) aims to set low-carbon and 'Made in Europe' requirements for public procurement of aluminium, cement and steel, and technologies such as wind turbines or electric vehicles. Critics argue that the IAA will prompt trading partners to close their doors. The proposal has been delayed numerous times due to disagreements about its content, but further changes are expected.
