A state board has approved a plan to allocate $404 million in federal aid for rural health care in Ohio ahead of a federal deadline. The money, which was part of last year's Republican-authored "One Big Beautiful Bill," includes more than $60 million for maternity units in rural hospitals and $50 million to expand Gov. Mike DeWine’s OhioSEE program. However, some lawmakers had concerns about offering part of the money to already profitable rural hospitals. The revised two-year spending plan includes 26 hospitals eligible to share in the funding. The funding is part of a larger $184 million allocation to establish regional rural health innovation hubs and expand telehealth and remote health monitoring.
