University of Utah campus, elementary and middle schools see measles cases amid statewide increase

Utah has reported a statewide outbreak of measles, with 583 confirmed cases, with 121 of these cases diagnosed in the last three weeks. The Utah Department of Health and Human Services has identified the highest rate of measles cases in the current outbreak, which started in June 2025. Southwest Utah has the most cases at 249, followed by Utah County, at 93, and the TriCounty Health Department, at 59. Notable locations are identified as potential exposure locations for measles exposure. The disease is highly contagious virus that spreads easily through the air through coughing and sneing. Symptoms include high fever, high cough, cough, and a rash, which can cause serious health complications, including pneumonia, encephalitis or brain swelling.
