Sony has announced it will stop producing Blu-ray players in February 2026, a move that could potentially end physical video media's dominance. However, as of yet, Sony has stated it has no intention to stop producing the devices, which allow users to insert a blank Blu-Ray disc and record a broadcast. The announcement was confusing as it was made in Japanese and translated into English with the ease of translation software. Despite this confusion, Sony's announcement was brief and stated that production of Blu-rays would continue. The company's PlayStation 5 can also play Blu-ries, as long as a disc drive, and there are no successor models.
