Global brands shut Middle East stores as conflict causes chaos

The escalating conflict in the Middle East has resulted in significant disruption for businesses and travel in Dubai and other major Middle Eastern shopping hubs. Chalhoub Group, which runs 900 stores for brands such as Versace and Jimmy Choo across the region, closed its stores in Bahrain, while other markets such as the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Jordan remained open. The Middle East, which still accounts for a small share of global spending on luxury, was "luxury's brightest performer" last year, according to consultancy Bain. The conflict has also disrupted tourism flows into the region and could deter travellers, potentially harming luxury sales in Europe.
