Denver officials call for proactive approach after shootings

City leaders in Denver are urging swift action after a spate of homicides, including three fatal shootings, occurred in the spring, which is typically a period of violent crime. The incidents are not connected and most of them are isolated incidents, with no indication of gang activity or retaliatory violence. A panel of representatives from the Colorado Black Round Table convened to discuss possible solutions, including investment in summer programs for young people. They also called for increased funding for youth development, particularly if public funds are scarce. The increase in violence is putting pressure on leaders to prevent a more violent summer.
