Michael Hand, the alleged killer of 15-year-old Tracy Gilpin, is on trial for her 1986 murder after more than 30 years of delay. Hand allegedly dropped a 73-pound rock on Gilpin's head and left her partially clothed body in Plymouth’s Myles Standish State Forest. Hand was initially arrested in North Carolina in March 2018, months after Gilpin took over at the State Police. He has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder and previously dropped two other charges against him after concluding the statute of limitations had expired. The case was broken in December 2017 when State Police learned that Gilpin and Hand had spent time at Hand's home in Kingston.
