Rep. Tony Gonzales, a three-term congressman from Texas' 23rd Congressional District, is set to face in a runoff after allegations surfaced of an affair with an aide who later committed suicide. Despite not breaking the 50% threshold in the GOP primary, Gonzales had 42.5% of the vote and his opponent, YouTuber and firearms enthusiast Brandon Herrera, had 42%. This follows a period of controversy surrounding Gonzales' popularity in his constituency due to his voting record on LGBT issues and gun control. The Office of Congressional Conduct is investigating the alleged infidelity, which could be referred to the House Ethics Committee following the primary election. The May runoff winner will face the Democratic nominee in the November 20th general election.
