The Ford Mustang GTD Competition has set a lap time at the Nürburgring Nordschleife, making it the second-fastest American car. The Competition-spec Mustang is an enhanced GTD model with more aero add-ons, more power, less weight, and grippier tires. It beat the GTD's previous time by over 11 seconds and beat the Chevy Corvette ZR1X's time by eight. The car is part of the prototype/pre-production class and will be sold in a limited number. Since its lap time was classified as different from production-eligible cars like the Corvette Zr1X, it occupies a different list on the official 'Ring website than other cars. The supercharged 5.2-liter V-8 has been retuned and features new hardware that helps the engine exceed the standard GTD rating.
