A new Harvard/MIT poll has found that 40% of respondents support the building of a data center in their local area, while 32% are opposed when asked about industrial facilities in their neighborhoods. The survey also found that two-thirds of respondents were worried that a new data center would increase electricity prices. Interest in data centers, which often do not employ many people once they are operational, may not sustain this sentiment. Another survey by Quinnipiac University also found 65% of Americans oppose building an AI data center, with only 24% supporting one being built. These new polls suggest that the debate over data centers is not settled and that discontent is likely to continue spilling into politics.
