Sen. Chuck Grassley, chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, has opened an inquiry into eight major tech companies over their handling of mandatory reporting of online child abuse. The inquiry, which aims to ensure that no cases occur again, includes Amazon's AI services division filing 1.1 million reports of suspected online child exploitation in 2025, which lacked essential information. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) reported that these reports may not have the necessary information to prompt action in the real world. The companies named in the inquiry include Meta, TikTok, Roblox, Snap, Amazon AI Services, xAI, Grindr and Discord. This is part of a growing movement questioning whether tech companies can be trusted to keep children safe online.
