Eswatini's King Mswati III celebrated his 40th birthday with a crowd of supporters and supporters. Despite criticism of his lavish lifestyle, a third of the country's population live below the $2.15-a-day World Bank poverty line. Critics argue that the king's lavish lifestyle comes at the expense of a population under the influence of poverty, inequality, and high HIV prevalence rates. The king's upkeep costs tens of millions of dollars and this month was awarded an extra $3 million.
