Artificial intelligence is becoming a significant influence in political campaigns in the 2026 midterms, with major congressional campaigns using "deepfake" AI technology in videos that slam their opponents and amplify endorsements from allies. The Cornyn campaign used this technology in a music video featuring an animated likeness of Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, depicting corruption and marital infidelity. The B-52s objected to the use of their song "Love Shack" without their approval, calling it "tasteless and illegal" and a tasteless use of the song. The National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) also used AI to target Texas Democrat Senate nominee James Talarico for past social media posts. Jesse Jackson Jr., who lost in the Democrat primary for Illinois' 2nd Congressional District, used AI technology to amplify an endorsement from former Rep. Bobby Rush, whose voice has been weakened due to throat cancer, who used it to speak with his natural voice.
