Proposed Law Would Create Official PA Liquor

Sen. Camera Bartolotta, a Pittsburgh-area Republican, plans to introduce legislation to establish rye whisky as the state's official spirit. The proposal would align with the Whiskey Rebellion in 1794 and the city of Washington PA commemorates this event with a festival. If approved, it could be the strangest state symbol of the Trilobite, a prehistoric invertebrate that was designated as the official state fossil of Pennsylvania in 1988.
