Ohio Democrat, State Rep. Allison Russo, has filed a public records request after Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose shared 8 million Ohio voters' information with federal agencies. The request was prompted by LaRose's decision to share voter data with the Department of Justice. The SAVE Database, used by about 1,200 agencies nationwide each year to verify citizenship eligibility for benefits programs, has been expanded under President Donald Trump's presidency. LaRose also announced voter data sharing through two programs, the Systemic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE) system and EleXa, in December, which she claims will help prevent voter fraud. Russo's request includes all data sharing systems, including the SAVE database used to vet voting records for noncitizen voting, but concerns about its use by voting rights groups that could disenfranchise voters.
